Sugars’ 25 leads Navy past Army 85-81

WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Jordan Sugars scored 25 points to lead all five Navy starters in double figures in an 85-81 victory over Army on Saturday night.

Navy (6-16, 1-4 Patriot League), which broke a four-game losing streak, took the lead in the second half and held off Army (10-10, 2-3), which has lost three of four.

The Midshipmen led by 13 with 14:14 left, but Army cut the lead to 78-77 on Ella Ellis’ three-point play with 56 seconds left. Navy pushed the advantage to 80-77 before Jeremy Hence’s layup brought Army to within 80-79 with 28 seconds to play.

O.J. Avworo hit two free throws to push lead to 82-79.

Navy was 8 for 8 from the free-throw line in the final 55 seconds.

J.J. Avila scored 17 points, Avworo had 15, Isaiah Roberts added 13 and Greg Brown had 12 for Navy.

Ellis scored 21 points, Hence had 17, Josh Herbeck scored 16 and Julian Simmons added 11 for Army.
