JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Jon House scored 17 points as Belmont defeated East Tennessee State 72-62 Sunday, preventing a first-place tie in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The Bruins (18-3, 10-0) won their ninth in a row and snapped East Tennessee State’s nine-game winning streak. Instead of tying for the conference lead, the second-place Buccaneers (13-8, 8-2) fell to two games back.

Belmont made 12 of 26 from 3-point range (46.2 percent), and 13 of 29 (44.8 percent) closer to the basket.

Micah Williams scored 22 points to lead the Buccaneers, who overcame a 12-point, first-half deficit to tie the score at 52 on Sheldon Cooley’s free throws with 8:50 left. But Ian Clark, who had 14 points for Belmont, answered 11 seconds later with a layup, sparking a 17-7 run that put the game away.

Jordan Campbell added 12 points off Belmont’s bench, which outscored the Buccaneer reserves 29-2.
