CAIRO (AP) — Egypt’s top democracy advocate Mohamed ElBaradei has returned to the country amid the largest anti-government protests in years.
ElBaradei arrived in Cairo Thursday evening, where he was greeted by family and friends.
He said he returned to the country because “it’s a critical time in the life of Egypt and I have to participate with the Egyptian people.”
Egyptian activists were staging a third consecutive day of demonstrations Thursday, calling for the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak, who has ruled for nearly 30 years.
