Two suspects in a shooting last weekend at a Hazel Dell apartment complex made first appearances Thursday in Clark County Superior Court.

Meanwhile, sheriff’s deputies arrested a third suspect, Nathan J. Gadberry, 38, in Goldendale and he was booked into the Klickitat County Jail.

At the other men’s hearing, Judge Barbara Johnson set bail at $500,000 for Armando J. Castillo-Munoz, 30, and Andrew A. Wright, 38, both of Vancouver.

Castillo-Munoz was captured Tuesday afternoon and hospitalized before being booked in the Clark County Jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery and first-degree assault. Wright, also being held on suspicion of first-degree robbery and first-degree assault, was arrested Wednesday.

Sheriff’s authorities remained quiet, not releasing any details on this case, following the men’s arrests.

Prosecutors allege Castillo-Munoz, Wright and Gadberry were involved in a robbery-turned-shooting at the Red Haven Apartments, 1304 N.E. 88th St., the night of Jan. 21. The 34-year-old victim, David D. Jones, told investigators that he had received 12 grams of methamphetamine from Wright in November, worth $300, which he hadn’t yet paid for, according to a probable cause affidavit signed by Clark County sheriff’s Detective Kevin Harper.

While at a friend’s apartment, Jones said Wright, Gadberry and Castillo-Munoz came over to confront him about the meth.

“Why did you make us come and find you?,” Castillo-Munoz told Jones, according to the affidavit.

Investigators said Castillo-Munoz demanded Jones give him his watch and wedding ring because he didn’t have money to pay him for the drugs. He handed them over.

However, according to investigators, Castillo-Munoz allegedly struck Jones in the head with a handgun, as Wright punched him in the face. Castillo-Munoz then allegedly shot him, according to the affidavit.

Jones’ friend did not call 911, but had a third person drive Jones to Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital for treatment of lacerations to his head and a wounded finger, according to the affidavit.

“The victim was shot in the hand and lost one of his fingers,” Deputy Prosecutor Michael Dodds told the judge.

Jones was no longer listed as a patient Thursday at Legacy Salmon Creek.

Johnson set arraignment for Feb. 10.

The judge appointed defense attorney Suzan Clark to represent Wright; Castillo-Munoz said he will hire his own attorney.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, all the defendants have extensive criminal histories and were wanted on charges not related to the incident.
