VANCOUVER — The Port of Vancouver has taken two more steps to advance its planned $150 million rail project, negotiating to acquire additional land and hiring a consultant. Both actions further the port’s efforts to build the West Vancouver Freight Access project — a 27-mile expansion of rail tracks that will allow the port to handle more cargo, and for it to move more quickly. It is scheduled to be completed in 2017.

The port’s board of commissioners voted to negotiate the acquisition of about 1.8 acres from two port tenants: Boise Building Solutions Distribution and Tristar Transload.

The board also authorized a sole-source personal services contract with Tangent Services, a Portland-based rail consultant, for up to $90,000 for one year, with the option to make four one-year extensions.
