TriMet: video shows woman who died touched train

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A Portland-area transit agency says surveillance video contradicts an earlier account of how a 76-year-old woman came to be fatally injured by a MAX light rail train. TriMet said Monday the video shows Sandy Sullivan reach out with her left hand and touch a moving train. The agency says that caused her to be turned around and then fall into a gap between the train cars.

Earlier reports of the Friday night accident indicated that Sullivan got her cane stuck between the platform and an arriving train, lost her balance and slid beneath the train. She was rescued but died Saturday at a hospital.

The Oregonian reports that TriMet spokeswoman Mary Fetsch says the platform video shows Sullivan standing with a friend as the train approached the station. No other riders were nearby.
