PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — An Albany woman accused of shooting and killing her landlord has told investigators she believed the landlord was a pedophile who sexually abused a 4-year-old girl in his wife’s care.

The accusation was part of an affidavit filed against 37-year-old Melissa Haley.

According to the affidavit filed Thursday in Linn County Circuit Court, Haley told police she shot and killed Derrick Miller to stop him from abusing children. Haley said she witnessed the abuse but didn’t report it police.

Miller’s wife disputed Haley’s account and told police the couple hadn’t had any children in the home for about five years.

Haley said she is on medication for anxiety and depression, and said she suffered a head injury in May after a fall on wet stairs. Her attorney was unavailable Friday.
