Woodland police are looking for a man whom they want to question about a suspicious fire at his parents’ home early Friday while they were home in bed.

Gregory Hardegger, 49, had argued with his parents Thursday evening over a car before he walked away from the home the three shared, according to a news release.

The fire was reported at 12:50 a.m. at the Hardegger home, 453 Washington St. It started in the garage, where two cars were parked.

Police arrived and evacuated Hardegger’s parents, Ernest, 78, and Cynthia, 69. Firefighters attacked and quickly extinguished the fire, but not before it had destroyed both cars and heavily damaged the garage and attic. The rest of the home suffered smoke and other damage, but should be salvageable.

Police are investigating the fire as arson, and are seeking Gregory Hardegger, who has not been seen since the argument Thursday evening, as a person of interest.
