PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed closer J.J. Putz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Wednesday, with right elbow tendinitis after the right-hander struggled in recent appearances.
The team also reinstated right-handed reliever Sam Demel from the disabled list and selected the contract of veteran infielder Sean Burroughs from Triple-A Reno.
As manager Kirk Gibson had announced after Wednesday night’s loss to Cleveland, the Diamondbacks released third baseman Melvin Mora.
Arizona plays a three-game interleague series at Oakland starting Friday night.
