Union’s Docherty, two others reach finals of Oregon Junior Amateur

Final matches today at Klamath Falls

Alistair Docherty, a Union High School senior-to-be, and two other Clark County golfers advanced Thursday to play in divisional finals at the Oregon Junior Amateur golf championships in Klamath Falls, Ore.

Docherty, last fall’s Class 4A Greater St. Helens League player of the year, will play in the finals of the Juniors division for golfers ages 16-17 today at Reames Golf & Country Club. He will face Kevin Murphy of Rogue River, Ore., the stroke-play medalist.

Docherty won two 18-hole matches Thursday to advance. He beat Adam Ruben of Lake Oswego, Ore., 2 & 1 in the quarterfinals. Then, after being down four after eight holes, Docherty rallied to beat Conner Kumpula of Albany, Ore., 1 up in the semifinals.

The Intermediate (12-14) boys tournament featured an all-Clark County semifinals, where Brian Humphreys of Washougal beat Spencer Tibbits of Vancouver 4 & 3. Humphreys will face Bryce Wortman of Klamath Falls in the finals.

Benjamin Gruher of Camas beat John Pollock of Eugene 1 up in the Pee Wee (8-11) boys semifinals. Gruher will face Samuel Pyon of Happy Valley, Ore., in the finals.

Also Thursday, Diego De La Torre of Brush Prairie lost 3 & 1 to Cole Madey of West Linn, Ore., in the boys 14-15 semifinals.
