Sunday, July 3, 2011
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The mother of 14-year-old missing Portland girl has asked the 16-year-old boy charged with her daughter's murder to tell police where she is.
The Oregonian reports that Shaquita Louis wrote a letter to Parrish Bennette Jr., describing the anguish over not knowing what happened to Yashanee Vaughn.
Authorities say Parrish Bennette Jr. fatally shot his girlfriend in mid-March and then hid her body. Vaughn was reported missing by her mother on March 19 and has not been seen since.
Bennette faces first-degree murder with a firearm and first-degree manslaughter with a firearm in Vaughn's death. He has pleaded not guilty.
A bail hearing continues Thursday to determine whether he should continue to be held without bail.
