SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners selected right-hander Blake Beavan from Triple-A Tacoma to start Sunday’s series finale against San Diego and optioned outfielder Mike Carp to Tacoma.

Beavan will be making his major league debut. He was acquired by Seattle as part of the deal that sent Cliff Lee to Texas last July.

Seattle also transferred catcher Chris Gimenez from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Beavan.

Beavan is 5-3 with a 4.46 ERA in 16 starts for the Rainiers this season. He’ll be taking the spot in Seattle’s rotation of Erik Bedard, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a sprained left knee.

After playing well at Triple-A, Carp struggled following his call up. Carp was hitting just .200 in 15 games and his playing time had been limited.
