KENT, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say Fourth of July fireworks set off in a Seattle-area neighborhood started a house fire that damaged a two-story home and displaced its three residents.
The Kent Fire Department said in a press release Monday that the fire started after sparks from the airborne fireworks landed on the roof of the home. Several people, including a police officer, reported seeing the blaze at about 5:30 p.m.
No one was injured, and fire officials said in a press release that investigators had not determined who may have lit the fireworks.
Kent municipal laws allow for the use of certain types of fireworks between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., but the fire department says it was unclear whether the fireworks that started the fire were legal.
