PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — Two people have announced their intentions to step into the vacant Umatilla County district attorney’s job.

The East Oregonian reports Umatilla County deputy district attorney Dan Primus and former tribal attorney general Chris Buford will seek the job after the creation of an 11-member panel to whittle down the applicants.

The job came open when former Umatilla County district attorney Dean Gushwa resigned on May 31. He was found guilty of one count of official misconduct.

Gushwa was the subject of an Oregon Department of Justice investigation into a sex crime, and took a leave of office in August 2010.

The appointment will be made by Gov. John Kitzhaber.
