Oregon state rep to challenge Wu in Dem primary

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- State Rep. Brad Witt says he will challenge embattled Oregon Congressman David Wu in the Democratic primary.

Witt said Tuesday that he will officially announce his candidacy on Thursday while doing a tour of the five counties in the 1st Congressional District.

Witt joins former Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian in vying for the seven-term Congressman's seat.

Reports this year about Wu's mental health and erratic behavior led former campaign supporter and former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill Bradbury to call Wu "damaged goods." Wu has acknowledged his behavior led several key staffers to quit, but says he has sought treatment.
