BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A Canadian sports doctor whose high-profile clients have included Tiger Woods and Alex Rodriguez has admitted in a New York courtroom he brought unapproved drugs into the United States to unlawfully treat professional athletes.
Dr. Anthony Galea (gah-LEE’-yuh) pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Buffalo.
The 51-year-old Toronto healing specialist was sought out by the biggest names in sports but wasn’t licensed to work in the United States. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in October on charges he smuggled human growth hormone and other substances into the United States.
The indictment also charged him with conspiracy and lying to border agents. It didn’t identify his clients.
Woods and Rodriguez say they didn’t receive performance-enhancing drugs from him.
The doctor faces similar charges in Canada.
