NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s sports ministry has fired four officials and a star athlete has lost a sponsor in the fallout from the country’s doping scandal.
The ministry said Thursday that four Indian officials had “been removed,” two days after the dismissal of Ukrainian coach Yuri Ogorodnik, who was in charge of six of the eight athletes who tested positive for anabolic steroids in the past week.
Asian Games double-gold medallist Ashwini Akkunji was among six 400-meter runners caught for doping and has now lost the sponsorship of a sports development funding body.
