Indianapolis (AP) — The Indiana Pacers have named Frank Vogel as their head coach.

The team made the announcement during a news conference Wednesday.

Vogel took over for Jim O’Brien at the middle of last season, went 20-18 to close the regular season and led the team to its first playoff berth since 2006. Pacers president Larry Bird called Vogel the favorite to get the job from the beginning of the search.

The Pacers have a young nucleus that includes Danny Granger, Darren Collison and Roy Hibbert, and the team added hometown guard George Hill in a draft-night trade.

Indiana was interested in Mike Brown, but the former Pacers assistant and Cleveland head coach took the top job with the Lakers.
