Vinci, Errani advance to quarterfinals in Budapest

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Italians Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani — the top two seeded players in the tournament — reached the quarterfinals of the Budapest Grand Prix.

Vinci rallied past Timea Babos of Hungary 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Errani defeated Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland 6-3, 6-1.

In Thursday’s only other singles match, qualifier Estrella Cabeza Candela of Spain edged Eva Birnerova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (4), 6-3.

In Friday’s quarterfinals, Vinci plays Zuzana Kucova of the Czech Republic, and Errani faces fifth-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain.

Candela takes on seventh-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania, and third-seeded Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic meets Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine.
