BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — The ship director of the USS Turner Joy says he’s hoping to find the owner of a wayward parakeet that showed up aboard the historic Navy destroyer moored at Bremerton, Wash.

Steve Boerner tells the Kitsap Sun that the bird landed Wednesday on the hand of a young man who was touring the vessel. The man walked into the gift shop with it on his finger.

Boerner says the bird was hungry and thirsty but has perked up after some food.
