NEW YORK (AP) — New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has a slight tear in the cartilage of his right knee and was deciding on the best course of action heading into the All-Star break.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi revealed details of the injury at a press conference Saturday.

Girardi said the 14-time All-Star could either play through the injury or opt for surgery that could sideline him for at least a month.

Rodriguez pulled out of Tuesday’s All-Star game in Arizona after he was held out of the lineup Friday night against the Tampa Bay Rays before the game was postponed by rain. He was then sent for an MRI that revealed a tear in his meniscus.

The three-time American League MVP is hitting .295 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs this season.
