ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels have promoted prized outfield prospect Mike Trout, who will make his major league debut against the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.

The 19-year-old Trout is considered the top prospect in baseball in several recent rankings. He has excelled for Double-A Arkansas in the Texas League this season.

After Angels center fielder Peter Bourjos strained his right hamstring Thursday, Trout says he was shocked to get a middle-of-the-night call from Angels general manager Tony Reagins calling him up to the big leagues.

Trout will bat ninth against the Mariners, and manager Mike Scioscia says he’s likely to play all weekend. He’s the youngest player on a major league roster and the youngest to debut with the Angels since 19-year-old Andy Hassler came up on May 30, 1971.
