A Hazel Dell man was taken into custody Friday in connection with a bank robbery that had occurred only moments before.

A Clark County sheriff’s deputy arrested Allan S. Wilkinson, 50, in connection with a bank robbery at First Independent Bank, 8015 N.E. Highway 99, on Friday morning.

Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Shea said a man reportedly went to the Hazel Dell bank at about 9:40 a.m. and presented a note demanding cash. He was wearing a sweatshirt, baseball cap and jeans, and carrying a backpack; he left with an undisclosed amount of money, which he put in the backpack.

The bank teller alerted her manager, called 911 and pulled the alarm. Deputy Paul Prather was already in the area and responded, finding a man who matched the description of the robber walking across the bank’s parking lot.

Upon questioning, Prather arrested Wilkinson, and money was recovered.

Shea said Wilkinson lives at a trailer park two blocks from the bank. Wilkinson was booked in the Clark County Jail on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
