BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) -- High levels of fecal bacteria have prompted state officials to issue an advisory for a popular beach in Whatcom County.
The Bellingham Herald reports that the advisory for Wildcat Cove in Larrabee State Park has been in place since June and health officials don't know what is causing the spike.
Under an advisory, the beach is not closed, but a warning is issued for children, the elderly and those in poor health. Though health officials say it's best if everybody stays away from the water.
Whatcom County Health Department environmental health supervisor Tom Kunesh says the bacteria levels fluctuate, but officials prefer to keep the advisory up.
