The American Red Cross Pacific Northwest Blood Service Region needs blood donors.

There is a critical nationwide shortage because most people who donate are busy during the summer season, according to the Red Cross. The end of the school year also decreases May and June donations. The Red Cross is worried that this shortage will continue throughout the summer.

This organization provides blood to more than 80 hospitals and needs about 1,100 people to give blood and platelets each weekday.

All types of blood are needed but O negative especially is important because it can be used to treat anyone.

Donors must be 17 years or older (16 years with parental permission) weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Bring identification when going to donate.
