LAS VEGAS (AP) — Defending champion Jonathan Duhamel has been eliminated from the World Series of Poker main event, losing his last chips with an ace high.

Duhamel lost roughly half his chips over the first 4 hours of play but didn’t last long after his next 20-minute break on Monday in Las Vegas.

The Canadian poker professional gambled his last chips with a suited ace-deuce and was called by an opponent with an ace-king.

The community cards gave his opponent an unnecessary straight, and Duhamel was eliminated.

Duhamel won $8.9 million last year after beating 7,318 opponents.
