SYCAMORE, Ill. (AP) — Authorities in northern Illinois are scheduled to discuss the investigation of the 1957 slaying of an Illinois girl that led to the arrest this month of a 71-year-old Seattle man.

Officials from the state’s attorney’s office, the Sycamore Police Department, Illinois State Police and the FBI will discuss the case Tuesday in Sycamore.

The news conference comes a little more than a week after authorities announced they’d arrested a former police officer named Jack Daniel McCullough in the death of 7-year-old Maria Ridulph (RIHD’-uhlf). She was abducted while she played near her home in this small farming town. Her body was found months later.

McCullough used to live in Sycamore. He’s denied being involved in her death and says he was in Chicago 50 miles away when she was abducted.
