LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is offering up details of what he says was happening behind the scenes around the time he was fired.

Leach is releasing a book titled “Swing Your Sword.” In excerpts made available Tuesday, Leach said emails “suggest” there was never a university investigation into allegations he mistreated a player with a concussion but rather “an effort to sell me down the river.”

The university fired Leach in December 2009 amid claims that he mistreated the player, Adam James. He sued the school but an appeals court allowed his trial to go forward for only non-monetary damages.

Leach claims a public relations firm hired by Craig James, the player’s father and an ESPN analyst, was used by the university to “smear” his name.
