A 74-year-old former Vancouver resident was killed Monday afternoon when her car crossed the center line on State Route 4 and collided with a loaded, oncoming log truck, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Deon C. Brown of Cathlamet was driving a Ford Taurus westbound about nine miles east of Cathlamet around 3:20 p.m. when she struck the eastbound log truck driven by Daniel Urmanski, 37, of Woodland, according to a statement issued by the state patrol.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. Urmanski was not injured.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be involved.

The wreck closed the highway until around 6:45 p.m., a dispatcher said.
