Grand Forks Air Force Base has new commander

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) -- Grand Forks Air Force Base has a new leader.

Col. Donald Shaffer on Wednesday turned over command to Col. Timothy Bush.

Shaffer is taking a new position at the Pentagon. The Grand Forks Herald reports that he joked that he won't miss the North Dakota winters. But he said he'll miss the people.

Bush said he's excited to take over the 319th Air Base Wing. He comes from Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington, where he was vice commander of the 92nd Refueling Wing.
