PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) — Come Monday, the Ochoco National Forest of central Oregon will have a new forest supervisor. Kate Klein is moving from the Umatilla National Forest office in Pendleton, where she has been the operations staff officer since 2009.
A 1976 Penn State University graduate with a degree in forest management, Klein has worked for the Forest Service for 31 years. After graduation, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras, working in reforestation and tree nursery operations. She started her Forest Service career as a forester in the Huron-Manistee National Forest in Michigan.
She has also worked in New Mexico and Arizona.
