Senior Babe Ruth state finals today

Redbirds must win twice to claim title

The Southern Washington Senior Babe Ruth State tournament concludes today with the championship round at Louis Bloch Park in Camas.

The Vancouver Redbirds will need to defeat Aberdeen twice today to claim the crown.

The teams play at 11 a.m. If the Redbirds win that contest, one final game will follow at 2 p.m.

The winner of this tournament advances to the Pacific Northwest Regional Senior Babe Ruth Tournament. That tournament will be played Juy 20-24 at Civic Field in Port Angeles.

Aberdeen is 3-0 in the 10-team double-elimination tournament, beating the Vancouver Redbirds 10-3 on Tuesday morning to secure a spot in today’s championship games.

Also on Tuesday, Hoquiam eliminated the host team, Camas-Washougal Granite Construction, 8-3. The Redbirds then defeated Hoquiam, 11-3, to earn another shot today at Aberdeen.

The Redbirds, 3-1 at this tournament, scored four runs in the first inning of the loser-out game against Hoquiam.

Admission costs $5.

Little League

Little League Softball — Big performances at the plate from Tiffany Becker, McKenzie English and Jenna Linse kept the Cascade Little League all-stars alive in the Little League Softball state tournament on Tuesday in Woodinville.

Cascade beat West Plains of Spokane 10-3 in a loser-out game at the tournament for girls ages 11-12. Cascade plays host Woodinville at 5:30 p.m. today in another loser-out game.

Becker went 3 for 3 and scored three runs, and Engish scored four runs for the Cascade team. Linse pounded two doubles and drove in three runs.
