GOLD BAR, Wash. (AP) — The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says one person was killed and seven injured in a head-on collision Thursday on Highway 2 near Gold Bar.

The driver of a Ford Focus died at the scene about 11:30 a.m. He was the only person in that car.

The sheriff’s office says there were seven people in a Chrysler van. One was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Three were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, and three were taken to Valley General Hospital in Monroe.

The highway was closed for the sheriff’s office investigation, and traffic backed up as the only detour is over a gravel road.
