ATLANTA (AP) — The NCAA has put Georgia Tech on four years of probation and fined the school $100,000 for violations in the football and men’s basketball programs.
Georgia Tech did not lose scholarships and was not ruled ineligible for postseason games in either sport, but the football team was stripped of its last two victories of 2009 — the ACC title game win over Clemson and an Orange Bowl loss to Iowa. The basketball team had its recruiting days and official visits reduced over the next two seasons.
The football team was cited for lack of cooperation with the NCAA investigation. The NCAA said Georgia Tech also should have declared a football player ineligible after he allegedly accepted $312 worth of clothing from a friend of a sports agency employee.
