PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- New information is prompting Portland police to renew their search of Rocky Butte in hopes of locating the body of a 14-year-old girl.
Police spokesman Lt. Robert King said Thursday night that a new search is planned Friday.
The Oregonian reports that earlier this week, lawyers for a 16-year-old boy charged with murder in the disappearance of Yashanee Vaughn met with a Circuit Court judge in a private settlement conference. Prosecutors met privately afterwards with the judge but refused to comment.
The 16-year-old, Parrish Bennette Jr., has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder with a firearm and first-degree manslaughter with a firearm in Vaughn's death. He has been ordered held without bail until his trial.
The girl was reported missing by her mother on March 21.
