NCAA scraps move to expand recruiting calls

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The NCAA has rescinded legislation that would have allowed Division I schools to contact high school junior prospects by phone in sports other than football and men's basketball.
The legislation was approved in April, but schools later raised concerns about extending the recruiting process. The Division I Legislative Council suspended the legislation after receiving more than 100 override requests by the June 27 deadline. It is just the second proposal since 1997 to eclipse 100 override requests.
Separately, the Football Championship Subdivision Governance Committee defeated a proposal that would have barred home teams from staying at local hotels the night before a game.
