SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Fire officials in Spokane say they found the body of an older woman when they responded to a fire at a double-wide trailer home.

Firefighters say they found the body Friday afternoon in the area of the home that had the heaviest fire damage.

They did not immediately identify the woman. The Spokesman-Review says she was 68.

A niece of the victim, Debbie Hotchkiss, tells KREM her aunt was bed-bound and smoked. Hotchkiss says the older woman had a caregiver who left the home at 1:30 p.m. The fire was reported about 2 p.m.

Several of the woman’s animals were missing.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
