DETROIT (AP) — Carlos Guillen is back in Detroit’s lineup after missing 11 months with a severe left knee injury.

Guillen hasn’t played since Aug. 16, when a runner slid into him while the second baseman was trying to turn a double play.

Guillen says he’s excited to be back and that his rehabilitation took longer than expected. He had microfracture surgery on his leg.

Manager Jim Leyland put him right back in the lineup, hitting seventh Saturday against the Chicago White Sox.

Detroit center fielder Austin Jackson was out of the starting lineup with a sore left wrist.
