SEATTLE (AP) — The state Department of Corrections says a 35-year-old inmate injured three correctional officers at the Clallam Bay Corrections Center after he refused to go to this cell.

DOC spokesman Chad Lewis says that the incident started when Steven M. Eggers refused to go to his cell. The three officers were treated at the prison. One was punched in the nose while the other two suffered cuts and bruises.

Eggers was eventually subdued and taken to the prison’s maximum security area. He is serving a life sentence for a 1996 murder conviction.

The assault comes a couple of weeks after a botched escape attempt ended with officers shooting an inmate.
