“Chinese firms hope Bay Area project is bridge to the West” was an interesting story on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge project in the July 12 Business section. California decided to save $400 million by off-shoring the production to China.

California leads the nation in requiring businesses to adhere to strict greenhouse gas emissions limits. China doesn’t.

California leads the nation in requiring businesses to adhere to strict environmental regulations. China doesn’t.

California leads the nation in championing union and worker rights, regardless of the cost to business. China doesn’t.

California leads the nation in burdening businesses with over-regulation. China doesn’t.

Then California wants a bridge built and finds that it costs $400 million more to have it built locally than in China. Guess where California goes to get it built? That’s right, the same place where businesses are going to get their work done also.
