QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — Police say gunmen have kidnapped eight Pakistani aid workers after stopping their vehicles in the southwest of the country.

Officer Mateen Khan said the aid workers were seized Tuesday in the Surkhab area of southwestern Baluchistan province, where they were distributing food to Afghan refugees

Khan says all the workers were Pakistanis, but he did not say which group they were working for.

He says they were traveling in two vehicles.

A separatist insurgency has wracked Baluchistan for years and incidents of kidnapping for ransom are common there.

Earlier this month, a Swiss man and woman were kidnapped, and they have yet to be recovered.
