Kitzhaber picks predecessor’s wife for commission

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has selected the state’s former first lady to work on historic preservation issues.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department announced Monday that Mary Oberst was appointed to the State Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation.

Oberst is married to former Gov. Ted Kulongoski, who left office this year after eight years in the job. Kitzhaber last week appointed Kulongoksi to serve on a commission reviewing Oregon’s criminal-sentencing laws.
