PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police say a man stabbed and choked his pregnant wife, then stabbed himself. They are expected to survive.
Police responded to a southeast Portland neighborhood on Saturday after witnesses saw a bloody woman running down a street, screaming for help.
Lt. Robert King says 34-year-old Brian Nickels was arrested for investigation of attempted murder, assault, strangulation and unlawful use of a weapon.
Neighbors Dale Schaefer and his wife, Becky, tell KGW they ran to help the woman, who told them the stabbing followed an argument.
King says 32-year-old Elaine Winn is believed to be about three months pregnant. Her fetus is also expected to survive.
