HONOLULU (AP) — Alaska Airlines is starting daily nonstop flights between Honolulu to San Diego.

The Seattle-based airline announced Tuesday the new route will complement its San Diego-to-Maui flights, which began in October.

The extra capacity provides more competition to Hawaiian Airlines’ flights on the same routes.

Alaska Airlines says its new service will begin Nov. 17 with introductory fares of $149 each way.

Hawaii Tourism Authority President and CEO Mike McCartney says the success of Alaska Airlines’ Maui flights shows there’s continued demand from the West Coast to visit Hawaii.

The HTA estimates the new Honolulu route will contribute up to $58 million in yearly visitor spending and $6 million in annual tax revenue.
