Letter: Performance of leaders is dismal

Disappointment in President Barack Obama is felt by many Americans. Our government was set up to be for the people, by the people, with liberty and justice for all; health, happiness and prosperity for all, not just for the wealthy corporations. Republican presidents who worked for our good were Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower. Ronald Reagan worked to destroy the unions and weaken safety regulations, which led to disasters like mine collapses and oil rig explosions.

Our massive debt is due to lack of strong, properly enforced regulations to protect us from speculators gambling with our economy causing an inflation bubble, which will always collapse later, devastating workers. Outsourcing jobs causes families to lose income and health care. Lack of equal tariffs puts our exports at a disadvantage also hurting workers.

We need representatives who work for the people, stand up for our well-being, our jobs, our health and safety, and protect our environment.
