SHANGHAI (AP) — Rebecca Adlington is hoping China is a charm again.
Adlington won gold medals in the 400- and 800-meter freestyle races at the 2008 Beijing Games, but had to settle for two bronzes at the 2009 worlds in Rome.
Adlington has a full schedule in Shanghai featuring the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle, plus the 800 free relay.
Her Rome medals came in the 400 and the 800 relay, finishing fourth in the 800 individual event, which was won by Denmark’s Lotte Friis.
British swimmers got off to an encouraging start in this championship with Keri-anne Payne’s victory in the 10-kilometer open water race Tuesday.
