BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Federal prosecutors are seeking probation, not prison, for a Canadian sports doctor’s assistant whose arrest ultimately led to her employer’s conviction for bringing unapproved drugs into the U.S. to treat professional athletes.

Mary Anne Catalano is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in federal court in Buffalo for lying to border agents.

In court filings, prosecutors have asked the judge to depart from sentencing guidelines and give the 33-year-old Toronto woman probation, not prison.

Prosecutors cite Catalano’s extensive cooperation with investigators since her 2009 arrest. They say that cooperation helped them bring charges against her boss, Dr. Anthony Galea. Galea pleaded guilty earlier this month, admitting he treated patients, including some with human growth hormone, though he’s not licensed in the U.S.
