Burned Ore. waterfront building set for demolition

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) -- Buildings burned on Astoria's historic waterfront have drawn the attention of thieves who pilfer from the charred remains of a landmark local cafe while pieces of the buildings fall into the river.

The Daily Astorian reports demolition of the properties have been held up since the fires in December, but the property manager has scheduled demolition work to begin in August.

Authorities have labeled the fire suspicious, but no arrests have been made. The properties were scheduled for a foreclosure sale Dec. 30

The newspaper reports the properties' insurance companies finished their reports in June.
