NEW YORK (AP) — Fabio Cannavaro and Brian McBride highlight the roster for the New York Cosmos in their game against Manchester United.
The recently reformed club, coached by former Manchester United star Eric Cantona, will be the first American team to play at Old Trafford against Man U on Aug. 5.
Former U.S. goalkeeper Brad Friedel also was selected for the roster, along with former Manchester United stalwart Gary Neville and French World Cup champion Patrick Viera.
Man U is not expected to put many regulars on the field because they’ll play Manchester City on Aug. 7.
The Cosmos, who claim the lineage of the famous North American Soccer League team, are trying to join Major League Soccer.
The exhibition will be Paul Scholes’ final appearance with the club he joined in 1994.
