NORCROSS, Ga. (AP) — No. 8 seed Somdev Devvarman of India and Ryan Harrison overcame a lengthy rain delay to win third-round matches in the Atlanta Tennis Championships on Thursday night.
The rain delay lasted 2 hours, 30 minutes.
Harrison kept his composure despite double-faulting five times in the first set — seven overall — to upset No. 4 seed Xavier Malisse of Belgium 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4.
Devvarman, who won all 21 of his first-serve points, beat Japan’s Tatsuma Ito 6-1, 6-3 and will either play No. 1 seed and defending champion Mardy Fish or Nicholas Mahut of France in the quarterfinals.
Harrison will face either Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt or qualifier Rajeev Ram.
